Bears are very active along the Long Lake shore because most of the people who camp there are terrible about food storage. When I thru-hiked the NPT my buddy and I specifically avoided staying at these lean-tos because our friends who had thru-hiked it a couple years previously had a nuisance bear that wouldn't stop coming to the lean-to all throughout the night (Kelly's Point). While we were passing through we noticed most people were using big plastic storage containers or trash bags to store their food.
Not trying to say you need to be scared of bears, but that they are active and proper food storage is critical.
I will consider joining in on this, but only if y'all agree to each bring your own bear can.
