I have gotten a couple of younger Mayans that were like average bluegill size (5"-6") but the majority of the time I hook them, they are 8"-10" or like medium crappie size. Those are a blast though because they fight so hard. Maybe I could get more small ones if I did a Mepps #0 or #1 or a tiny Rapala, but I'm normally running a Mepps #2 or #3 going for sneks or whatever when I get the big Mayans.
There are bluegill here too, but I think in my 3 years of living here I have gotten maybe 5 of them. They were all pretty good size, but they look nothing like the sunfish up north.
Pic was one of the smallest Mayans I have gotten. They don't have the sweet color of the big ones.
