do it with friends at places you know and at places you don't know
spend nights alone, just staying there, or fishing or walking at trails you know and a few new ones as well. Just observing what is happening and seeing the sun rise and with it the scariness will help you.
In both cases start at 'safe places'. I don't know where you live but not having bears or venomous animals around will make it easier to get adjusted.
Get stronger, I mean physically. Start with pull-ups and pushups (have your arms at a 45° angle to your body, not 90° or just look it up on Youtube, many people do it wrong).
In that time read about lifting and proper techniques so you know what to do. Seriously, feeling strong is like a drug and it made the biggest difference for me.
