>>2228492Supposedly the Oscars used to be the main cichlid a few years back, like maybe the 90s, then they had a cold summer that the Oscsars couldn’t handle and the Mayan cichlids (your pic) took over. There’s still bluegill but I think the Mayans take over their habitats a lot.
I guess the peacock bass were introduced to try and keep the cichlids and other invasives in check because the native bass are lazy. And there’s other cool invasives, little local populations of random cichlids like pic related, jaguar cichlids. I have seen some orange Midas cichlids in little canals, and those Jack Dempsey fush in another pond, A whole lot of plecostomus in the canals and ponds, and up in Palm Beach County there’s these couple lakes with a breeding population of those brown knife fish that get fairly large. Stupid people releasing their aquarium fish. The snakeheads were spillover from some Asian fish farming operation during Hurricane Andrew or some shit.
