Shovel came in not only handy, but absolutely necessary in clearing out all the bushes and shit. There were significant roots that had to be chopped up. I could've used an axe (didn't bring one) or the knife, but this would have utterly ravaged their much finer edges. The shovel also easily got rid of all the rocks, and was useful for general scraping debris and superficial levelling. I also used it to hammer in the four stakes I used, since all the rocks here were porous as fuck. If I had had to stay here multiple nights, I would have dug out the site properly, so I could've slept level.
