I usually just get all tense when passing by others. My least favorite is encountering another group or individual going the same way I am. It's worse when I'm with my wife because she's slower than me, but alone I will either just slow way down and linger about for a while or (90% of the time) speed up and hustle past. Either way it's uncomfortable as fuck.
Meeting going opposite isn't as bad, can either just avoid eye contact or pass with a simple acknowledgement.
Worst was two years ago backpacking mid week, passed by a couple of young female USFS interns or something coming out
