>>1693152>It is a community centered around finding the best possible products.I would disagree here. UL has a large number of people making their own gear, most the cottage brands were started by hikers who were making their stuff and found that their was a lot of interest in the kit they made.
UL however, has definetly been caught up in the whole instagram/youtuber/influencer thing. Which I'm not the biggest fan of. It's easy to think the UL hiking is what these people present it to be, as they are the most vocal and visable. Not many people hear about the people quietly hiking odd routes in weird countries because they aren't too interested in shouting about what they are doing. But it's easy to stumble across one of the thousands of "TOP TEN ULTRALIGHT PRODUCTS FOR YOUR AT HIKE" videos.
>>1693196>And then said "heavy" stuff saves your ass on a routine basis.Such as?
>>1693196>you can't carry a 20 kg backpack for a day of walkingUL is really for people who are looking to hike for weeks or months. There really isn't much need to cut down your pack weight for a 10 mile, one night loop. But if you want to hike 25, 30, 35 miles a day with 1000s of feet of vert everyday for weeks then a light pack is only going to improve this experience. Honestly anon what do you have against light gear?
