But if you're saying you will save 3-4K you at best will be able to afford an old wooden shitbox which will cost a ton if you want to make it seaworthy.
That being assuming you don't spend much on the boat you will need to inspect the rig or get a rigger to do it. Go over all the sails or sailmaker to do it. Like really the list can go on.
The point of saying the 60's and 40's was that they're safe. I searched quickly for an older boat and I'm sure you can find a cheaper one if you looked but they're proven ocean vessels. Rather than a $4k wooden boat which has been living on a mooring for the last 40 years.
But seriously for that sort of money, you would be better off buying a skiff and just hooning around on that.
