I tend to find a smallish but harvestable truffle about 1 in every 200 birch trees. fortunately you only need 1 oz per gallon, boiled for at least an hour, the leftovers saved for a second boil or an ethanol extract. finally, the extracted chaga either made into paper or composted. I never waste any part of the truffle.
did find this 5 lb beauty when tripping. never breaking it up
