If you look at a topo map of blue mountain you'll see it's one straight ridge with only a few gaps (lehigh, schuylkill, swatara, wind gap, delaware water gap). This also means there's no reliable water sources between these gaps, otherwise they would have eroded valleys in the mountain long time ago.
