>>1291537>packing in supplies: do you prefer lighters, matches, flint/ferro, bushcraft alternatives? do you bring homemade tinder? what do you carry to process wood?A fire striker is nice because it's rain resistant, unlike (normal) matches and lighters, but I always bring lint from the dryer for tinder, and to protect that, and keep my shit from getting linty, i put it and my fire supplies in a ziploc bag. It's not the most sophisticated method, but it's effective and cheap.
>gathering materials: how do you find/select plant parts and species that will light easily, burn long, produce low smoke, or have other helpful properties?Pic related. Chopping down a tree is good for gathering wood, if you're in an area where it's acceptable and having an ax isn't an inconvenience. Even if chopping a tree down isn't an option, grabbing a tree that has fallen naturally, chopping, and splitting it saves a lot of time.
