>>416316I've never had a need to cut wood while camping. I always collect dead and down sticks and log. If a log won't crack when I try to break it with my hands or foot, then it's probably not ready to burn. There is always enough dead and down wood, and it doesn't take any more time or effort to collect than the greenhorns would spend sawing down trees and hacking up logs with their hatchets. Been doing this for almost 29 years, and I've never not been able to make a fire.
