Of all the wood pictured, it only left ash that filled the stove 1/3 of the way full. So you'd pretty much have to start worrying about emptying the stove an hour into your fire, depending on the intensity. The stands do not get hot so that is how I emptied it, grabbed a few coals and put them back in, and started the process.
You have to constantly maintain it, no falling asleep and hoping it's still going in the morning, but hey, a lot less effort and mess than an open fire. Smoke is hardly an issue to as the fan directs it out in a single column.
It does provide ample heat, the expanded metal surround it basically turns it into a heater. I will experiment with rocks to direct that heat when I camp next weekend.
Very easy to clean, easy to pack. Weighs about 2 pounds but I mainly camp, rarely hike. A great product that I can't wait to use in the woods next weekend.
