After a week of hardening off, not that they really needed it, I was able to take the plastic fully off my poly tunnel structure. I only have kale and garlic in it right now.
I have many more raised beds like this that need composted material and soil. Hopefully, I'll get at least a truck load of 2-3 year old composted manure by the weekend. Then I'll have two beds ready for spring planting!
The polytunnel was just an experiment, but it gave me fresh, ripe tomatoes in January and got me ahead of the curve for this growing season. The cost wasn't all that much. At max, it would have cost $30 per month to heat, but it never got that high. That's thanks to 2 sheets of plastic and all the black-painted, water-filled, 2-liter soda bottles I had stuffed in it all over.
My plans are to have more polytunnels for this winter as well as painting and filling even more soda bottles.
