My biggest thing I can recommend is looking into one of two types of wood to craft your bow from.
Osage Orange
or
Yew
These woods bleed less of the energy out in the limbs, and keep it in the arrow ensuring long and powerful flight paths as compared to North American Native traditional hickory wood.
