I'm not sure what the Dvergar (dwarves) represent. The word Jotnar (ettins/giants) derives from greedy or gluttonous, but several of the Æsir and Vanir are said to descend from them. I think perhaps the Jotnar are one of the prehistoric hominid races like the Neanderthal, a race that was widespread in the Levant. Make of that what you will.
