I don't think it will kill all potential parasites and viruses, but it will help keeping the water fresh. I think silver is a bit safer as you don't want too much copper in you, hence why copper cooking pots often have a coating, which can be bad itself if it's lead in it. And don't cook/store sour food in pure copper pots.
