On a somewhat related note I had to kill a bat some days ago. It fell somehow, and it had the misfortune of falling into the area where my dog sleeps. By the time I got there (little nephew saw it first and told me) it was half-chewed and close to death. I decided to quickly end its life, but I had the mistake of deciding to smash it with a shovel. I overestimated both the strength of my blow and the integrity of the bat, because with one hit the bat blew into pieces. I couldn’t find all the pieces. One wing was 6ft behind me, while the head was 3 yards away. I scoured the rest of my property and beside a small stain where the body was I couldn’t find anything else. At least I can be sure that I kill it almost instantly
