Looking to lighten my bivvy load.
I currently use an old inflatable thermarest (~700g) which goes inside the bivvy under my sleeping bag. Then I put a groundsheet with integrated thin foam pad (~900g) to protect the bottom of the bivvy and provide a little dry space on both sides.
I'd like to replace the groundsheet. Here's what I'm thinking:
>use my half-length (~450g) inflatable pad, plus a ridgerest/zlite (~400g) under the bivvy.
>pros: light and comfortable, high R value combo
>cons: doesn't add space on the sides of the bivvy, maybe bulky when packed
or
>use my regular inflatable pad, plus a thin groundsheet, alu or coated fabric
>pros: light, still decently comfortable
>con: may be loud at night, less protection
Does anyone have experience with various groundsheet+pad combinations for cowboy camping and can give some advice?
