>>2271585South and West Lakes are nice for old paths and forgotten about areas. Very quiet and peaceful all year round if you look hard enough. There was a lot of decent spots to escape to on the outskirts of Ulverston.
Dumfries and Galloway is extremely quiet. There really is nothing to do there but walk and explore. Only problem is there really is not a whole lot to explore apart from endless rolling hills of rough grazing land. The Positive is there is fucking nobody, but be prepared to be walking on peat for 90% of your journeys unless you are near the coastline.
I moved to Perthshire recently for work and have been lamenting at the abundance of people. Theres some nice spots in Fife and near Dunkled if you get far away enough from the towns.
I would recommend going to South Argyll to the Cowal Peninsula, there are some beautiful sea lochs and good hills to climb. And generally, out of season, fucking no one. Lovely.
