The ice isn't safe to walk on anymore, although it may get a little bit thicker by next week, on some lakes there's open water by creeks, although I haven't heard much about crappie yet. Steelhead fishing makes me kind of depressed unless I actually wake up early and get to the creek (2hrs before sunrise) and beat the insufferable soyboy fly and centerpin purists. Shore fishing still water won't be legit until April. Might try dead drifting some nymphs if the trout creeks allow it. I hate the in between periods. Why can't it either be 10 inches of ice or open water.
Also anyone recommend a cheap get-the-job-done surf fishing combo that a college student who may only fish salt water once every other year.
