Very little of my riding is in my county of residence. I put thousands of miles on the trails in neighboring and mountain counties, but because of their "rules" i'm automatically excluded from participating.
Know a bunch of the guys where I play in the summer, they know me and have a real good idea of my capabilities. I see them doing their training at the campsite regularly, been there and offered my services a few evenings when they're called out. Even did radio work for fire/rescue in another county, bringing them into compliance. The equipment I carry when i'm riding is on par with what they have.
It's not that I don't have the skills or equipment, it's that I have a job that pays much better than they would, and I don't want to move just to join their ranks. Which is really unfortunate.
I just hope I never have to use their services.
