>>1664045I feel like a fucking idiot; this thing won't work for me. Trying to smoke a tanned piece of leather like pic related to water proof it, and I was outside for probably two hours trying to get this thing lit. Grass, cotton balls, charcoal, tiny sticks, none of it would keep burning. I even tried 70% isopropyl alcohol to try and get it going, but it'd eventually burn out. After a while, I dumped it out and started with whatever was left in the bottom along with the alcohol sticking everything to the can. I think then I was getting close to getting it to burn, but again, it burnt out and even the charcoal didn't continue burning.
I tried the small hole in the side of the can, then I put some small (~2-3mm) holes in the bottom sides of the can staggered. And I even cut the top of the can to have a larger hole. Wouldn't stay lit. I am new to keeping a fire going, so I might just be inexperienced here, but I'm curious what I could've been doing wrong. The guy in the video, of course, didn't show what the top of the can looked like, so I was really doing guesswork to try and figure out how he was making his work.
How should I start this burning with a low flame so I can put a pelt over it and smoke it?
