All a dog can really do is bite. You can bite and also grab, you can wrestle, you can kick, literally pick it up and throw it. Even 'giant' dog breeds like Irish wolfhounds or st bernards are not as large and strong as an adult man.
You can choke it to death like Wool Smoth does in I am legend, or you can gouge it's eyes out with dem opposable digits, then deliver your badass quip:
