You can get both a milk breed and a meat breed or just one that combines both, like a Boer cross with a milk breed (Nubian x Boer). Crossbreeding is something you can do as well. I recommend getting a goat milk cream separator too.
Sheep are good only if you have lots of grass pasture. Goats are good if you have terrible pasture that isn't very grassy, but has lots of other vegetation. They are good to mow down the weeds and scrub leaving mostly grass behind where you can rotate in sheep later on if you want.
