Most people assume there should be an edge there, because it's part of the blade, but I can tell you - that's where the HANDLE should be.
Here's a shot of it side by side with an lt wright Coyote. Both have the same length of cutting edge (2 7/8'' on the coyote iirc), but the coyote has that extra bit of handle.
The trade knife is one of two small fixed blades I edc currently (whichever I feel like carrying on a given day) - I find myself putting my index finger over the spanish notch when using that one, but I like the looks of it, and it has great geometry (hardly surprising with a 1/16'' spine).
