>>2050454If you are trying to catch stocked trout then it doesn’t matter but if you fish a heavily pressured tail water with wild fish it can make a huge difference. It comes down to the thickness of the tippet compared to the fly. A thin diameter tippet gets pushed around less than a thicker diameter tippet. Because the tippet is in different micro currents than the fly if the diameter is too large compared to the size of the fly it will pull the fly unnaturally. Nothing mending or loop connections can do about it.
Just because two lines are listed at the same diameter doesn’t mean they have the same breaking strength or the same suppleness. Pic related.
