In white water you should already have your vest on. KEEP YOUR FEET UP IN THE AIR IF YOU GO DOWN IN WHITE WATER. When people drown in rivers they almost always got there foot caught under something and were held down by the current. I know this is a fishing thread and that's cool but you asked about safety.
