>>411549There are a couple of small "violins" (instruments that are meant to mimic the violin sound but are small and have a totally different shape, such as the "wipLstix") but to be quite honest they cost just as much as a real violin and almost all have pretty bad reviews. They either break too easily, sound like ass, or teach bad habits that make playing a real 4/4 violin harder (and the fuckers are hard enough to play as is!)
I think a cheap fiddle would be ok for car camping but after having spent the weekend at a fiddle camp and lugging it around everywhere I went I can assure you that carrying a full size violin for any length of time is a pain in the ass. They do make carbon fiber violins now though, but you'd still want to get a good hard-case but I think both the carbon fiber violin and hard-case will be expensive.
