Foggy morning.
Left to right,
•Batch 2 ducklings & temp pumpkin patch raised bed doing well. I need to move the tractor 2-3 times a day because they ducklings eat the grass and cover it in so much crap. ...so much crap.
•Beating back the weeds in the tomato patch with mulch made from yard clippings. I had to spread it out, dry it, then rake it up like making hay on mini-scale. It worked extremely well and I'll probably do more. The slopes of the raised beds are growing early pink popcorn and it seems to be doing well.
•The Dale sorghum and Fisher's earliest sweetcorn are both doing well, but I need to weed the sorghum ASAP. Batch 1 ducklings are progressing well. There's fewer of them and their tractor is larger so I only need to move it once every 2 days. I'll be working on making large, easily moveable runs today; around 20'x5' floor space, using deer netting and hoops.
•Caught 2 raccoons over the night. I set the traps near the ducklings so the raccoons will go after the easier to get bait instead of the ducklings at first. I'm using a 220 Conibear trap in front of a bait bucket and a livetrap. The bait is cat food. This makes 8 raccoons, 6 blacksnakes, and 1 skunk this year. I just relocated the blacksnakes to a rock pile on the other side of the farm. They help keep the territory clear of copperheads and mice, but are a danger to the youngest batch of ducklings until I have more 1"x1/2" welded cage wire to make the tractor safer.
