If your QuickClot cant get the job done and your still leaking with no amberlamps nearby.....your fucked.
Unless you have a C.A.T Tourniquet.
This is probably the most impressive thing as far as combat medical equipment I've seen.
The C.A.T. is a nylon strip with hook and loop velcro closure. Simply loop one end through the closure then pull tight around the limb....but not super tight just yet. Close the velcro ends to secure the tourniquet to the limb. Then turn the windlass to apply pressure. Tuck the windlass under the bracket and that is secured in place aswell.
If you are wearing it for several hours the windlass can be loosened to re-establish bloodflow to the limb.
If you use one of these do the EMS or doctors a favor and mark the TIME in 24hr format slightly ABOVE THE WOUND in sharpie. If you have to place a dressing over the C.A.T. mark the patients forehead with a T. This will tell medical personnel that the patient has a tourniquet somewhere on his or her body to look for under a dressing or clothing.
With practice the C.A.T. can be put on one handed on yourself or a patient in less then a Minuit.
These things are awesome and worth the cash even if you never think you will need it.
Sells for about $12-$15 at most gunshows. Dont worry about getting one new and sealed. Many have been used in training and as long as the parts are servicable and uncontaminated its good to go.
