Going on a multi week trek
I'm talking constant sideways rain, 40mph+ wind, daytime temps just above freezing
With high activity / metabolic output like scrambling and bushwacking with a heavy pack over very rough terrain.
Throw in stream and river crossings, marshes and bogs for good measure
So far I've been testing this outfit:
Headwear:
>Peaked hat to keep some rain off face
>buff to protect face from windchill
>fleece beanie / hood
Torso
>Brynje t shirt base layer
>fleece mid layer
>ventable rain jacket (permanent beading, outdry membrane)
Hands:
>100wt fleece liner gloves
>thin fleece mittens
>waterproof shell mitts
with spares in case one blows away or these get saturated
legs:
>Merino undies
>Merino tights
>thin nylon pants
>non-breathable waterproof trousers (with vents)
Feet
>Sturdy, tough trail runners (tough mesh)
>Goretex socks
>drymax (like coolmax) inner sock, medium thickness
>waxed canvas gaiters
>microspikes for muddy/slushy/icey traction
River crossing:
>thick garbage bags worn as waders, held on with elastic bands (and maybe gaiters worn outside) with microspikes over the top for grip
Any suggestions to improve? I've resigned myself to getting wet and carrying a dry sleep layer, I just don't want to be flash chilled or killed by a storm and high winds. There will be very few opportunities to dry out gear but carrying too many heavy spares and wearing too many sweaty layers will make travelling much less efficient
