Front loading is pretty much gold standard for bike touring. It goes way back to randonneur bikes.
Handling and weight distribution is far superior to heavy loads in the back especially when paired with a low trail fork.
Riding anything more than the tamest fire roads with a heavy load on the back and nothing in the front will get you a ticket to involuntary wheelie city.
