If you do it right your first time you'll feel a rush of adrenaline and pride, if you fuck it up and the animal suffers, if might scar you for life and put you off hunting for good.
Get gud shooting. SRSLY. You want to be able to shoot a nickel at 100 yards without any problem. Even after that, you'll find shooting at something that's alive is a whole 'nother level, you'll have to learn to calm your adrenaline and still your breathing and slowdown your heart so you can take a good shot.
Before you even shoot at an animal, study it's anatomy, so that you can get a good shot from whatever angle it presents itself to you so you can make a merciful kill. The last thing you want is to have to chase down a wounded animal to put it out of it's misery, or worse it gets away and dies in agony.
Don't be one of those jackasses that just takes the backstraps and leaves the rest of the animal to rot, waste nothing. Don't kill more than you need.

Start small, squirrels, rabbits, doves. The lessons learned there will pay off later.
