I'd like to offer a small look into what someone who lives off a motorcycle might eat on a daily basis, it's different from someone who's camping/hiking/homeless/traveling.
First of all storage- I use a lunch box with foam sides that make the lunch box study, just to store my food, because it has a strap that buckles that I can un-buckle and wrap around the carry handle on top to suspend it in the air from bears/racoons [fuck racoons] I've tried a hard lunch box/cooler. problem is my trailer rattles everything around A LOT. so the soft bag is to isolate the trailer bounce.
I don't normally carry anything cold. If I get something cold it has to be used within a few hours of getting it, so if you like cheese.. well, unless you buy cheeses that don't need to be kept cold your tough outta luck. I'll buy eggs often if I'm in an area with people who have chickens and I can get them fresh outta the chicken, and not washed.
I'll buy meat as I need it, I buy a lot of ground chicken, solid meal by itself, can use hot sauce, or BBQ sauce [if you're gonna buy BBQ sauce buy stuff HIGH in sugar and salt, won't spoil as quickly this way. but I'd kill it in a week if you're in warm weather. more in cooler. another good grab is bacon. bacon once cooked can be stored up to 2 weeks at room temperature. that's it for meat for me unless its a good quality jerky.
veggies is what ever you like, I like potatoes and carrots because they store warm just fine.a big veggie that stores a long time, because its dried out and VERY easy to cook with. is dried mushrooms, any large asian market will carry them in massive bags, and they weigh nothing and add a ton of flavor to things your cooking.
Fruits, I get whatever is in season and is cheapest, normally like 1/2 of them at a time. Since I'm on the road so much its really not an issue to go to a grocery store when I'm in a major area and pick something up for cheap.
