>>2254032I know for a fact that otters are being actively reared and released in the Adur, the Arun, Cuckmere and the Ouse. I imagine there's other places in the country but definitely having some success in Sussex.
>pic related They're not as often spotted as other reintroduced mammals because of their nature and that most people don't spend a lot of time by the rivers. They are there, breeding and more are being introduced every few months.
I can't say exactly who's doing it but it's another university professor and some local guys who are into ecology.
If you Google about you'll see about the beaver in Scotland. I don't think that went down so well so I don't know if they've scaled that back for now.
If you're serious about rewilding and live in the UK there are ways of getting involved. Just go looking and especially go to wildlife talks and stuff making your interest known.
>>2254020Not sure how well the ones released there are doing, hopefully they're surviving if not thriving but there were definitely breeding pairs released there.
>>2254033For me at least the aim is simply better ecology and reintroduction of native species.
