>>2024798Good to hear anon, it's a lovely place, very quiet and not hard to get away from it all. I work as a Forest Manager in Scotland and have covered the west coast and currently cover the east. The west/northwest can be very wet and boggy, whereas the Central Highlands and East coast is very dry. The west coast is very dramatic for landscape but is basically a spruce farm. The east coast is more gentle and you will see more heather, pine and larch.
In my experience, the best time to enjoy the outdoors in Scotland is during early and late spring, specifically from Mid March to May. During this time we have had some very dry springs where humidity is low giving some really good views of the landscape. Summer is a nightmare sometimes with insects, midges and ticks specifically. Autumn is still good but I find it tends to be fairly damp and humid, less good views and the vegetation gives you fewer options for lowland walking.
Something to be aware of, Argyll and the West Coast is very wet. You will get a lot of light misty rain that we call 'Smur'. Make sure you have good quick-drying clothing and decent waterproofs for this as it can ruin an entire week. You can get 4 seasons in one day no problem here, so prepare for the worst!
That being said, the dynamic weather and the environment is majestic, it really is a special place. I hope you have a good trip!
