They are built to be water shoes, amazing grip walking canoes through rivers or over beaver dams, even on slippery rocks.
Great to have a toe cap too when portaging; the amount of times I've avoided slamming my bare toes into rocks/roots/sharp sticks... Amazing, especially when carrying 70+ lb.
Got them 2 years ago at the recommendation of a MEC employee, who said that's what he has used for years. Before that, I used Vibram meme shoes which honestly worked better for river walking, but were constantly wet/cold because they didnt dry quick, hard to get on and off if I needed to, and my toes were fucking mangled if I didn't pay attention when portaging.
