In March I’m planning a trip to the Port St. Joe area of FL (Cape San Blas/Indian Pass). I’ll bring my 8 wt but I want to pick up a spin rod to throw out some shrimp one pompano rig while I drink beer and hang out on the beach (it’ll be spring break). Can I pick up a decent rod and reel for around $50? I don’t know anything about conventional tackle. Is a pompano rig the way to go or would something else work better?
If anyone is familiar with the area and can offer advice I’d appreciate it.
