>>149553coleman is a good reliable brand. generally speaking . though like others said, it is going to be heavier and bulkier than more expensive stuff from other brands like marmot, kelty, mountain hardware and so on...
you just have to try it out and see if it works for you. just keep in mind that there is better, more lightwieght stuff out there.
if it is just car camping, then hell yes i could go coleman all the way and not feel bad about it.
but if im going inna back country for a week or so with a 5-7 day pack arangement. then, no. i wouldnt consider using much coleman stuff. just because of weight and bulk issues.
you have to go on a few different week long hikes to experience it for yourself to evaluate you tolerance and preferences for gear.
first thing you do is figure out all the things you brought thinking you needed and realize you dont need or use. then trim down your load from there. after that first phase of reducing equipment, then slowly replace each piece of essential equipment with something more lightweight and compact.
the three biggest items to start upgrading first are:
1) your pack.
2) your tent
3) sleeping bag/pad/pillow
you can easily trim several pounds off your load by upgrading those 3 main items
the other critical items you can reduce wieght and bulk with upgrades are the following:
4) clothing
5) cook stove / cooking gear
6) lighting (flashlight, mini-lantern, headlamp, whatever)
7) food
8) water filtering system
thats the general idea anyways
