Some Anon here quoted the intro to this (written by someone else) in the /out/ quotes thread (I think). I bought a rather worn used copy for very little and have been blown away by the sections on childhood memories and the walk to the Gulf. All I previously knew of him was essentially what was in the Ken Burns "Our National Parks" doc, which was *plenty* impressive, but I now see him for the superhuman he actually was. If all you know of Muir was his /out/ings in CA, you are missing a *lot*. I've also been re-reading Walden.
