>>1196234>bandaidMedical tape & gauze is better and can be tailored to a larger array of wounds. For anti-septics get gels and pastes, but no liquids.
>deodorantNot needed. Spend that money on something more important.
>mouthwashNo!!! Many people actually drink that shit to get drunk, because they are retarded. Also, it isn't needed if you have a toothbrush, toothpaste, and access to water. Also, for the same reason, do not add liquid alcohols of any kind even if they are not for drinking (isopropyl, HEET, etc).
>chapstickCoconut oil is far better. If you think they can't make the connection, add a note stating, "used as chapstick and skin lotion". They can even eat it if they feel the need.
>tissueA cloth handkerchief or 3 is better, can be washed, and reused; along with the same number wash cloths.
>cotton swabsFor what purpose? A wash cloth and a finger can do the same job.
>cookies & crackersNever give food.
In addition to your photo, I would add,
•Chart of hobo symbols
•Alcoholics Anonymous Pamphlet/Brochure
•SAMHSA Pamphlet/Brochure
•Directory of locations and contact info for local free services (soup kitchen, free clinic, human resources, health & human services, etc.)
•2 pairs of wool socks
•Pair of insulated gloves
•Knit cap/toboggan long enough to adequately cover the ears
The basic philosophy behind this isn't to feed them. It is to educate them and give them equipment that will allow them to get up and go walking even in cold weather so they will be able to get to locations where further aid can be provided by professionals. Hunger is a great self-motivator to get shit done. Places like soup kitchens, human resources, health & human services mean social interaction which plays a huge role in making contacts and improving mental health.
Your goal isn't to help the homeless be homeless. It is to help the homeless stop being homeless.
