>>1456271>I've never seen a desert with my own eyes beforesame, this was my first time being in a 'proper' desert enviroment. it was pretty intimidating at times. but it was a pretty soft introduction as while it was dry water wasn't too difficult to organise. and having a gps made navigating the featureless areas easy.

>>1456273On average I was carrying 4L which was usually enough to get me through most of day, but I probably should have carried more as I was on the edge of dehydration a couple of times. I was hiking 25-30 miles a day so was getting between the water sources in a day. The most I carried at one time was 5L. But if I had been going slower than that would have increased a lot. The terrian was a mixed bag. In the north a fair bit of road and 4x4 tracks. In the south a lot of river beds, sand, scree, loss rock. It wasn't the easiest going. Definetly the sort of place you could roll an ankle, but I have almost exclusively hiked in low top shoes for half a decade now. I was lucky with the sandy sections as there had been a bit of rain before I arrived which had firmed it up a lot. It would have sucked to slog through dry, soft sand.
