Today while tilling up my garden, I broke up some root from the previous year and remembered this thread.
I gathered up a funnel and some tube and a hose clamp. I know the funnel is dirty so no need to put dirty water in it. To keep contamination out of the jar, I used a latex glove that I tore one of the fingertips off of and ran the tube through.
Here's what it looked like immediately after assembly.
