The bottles are better than buckets imo because less of it is getting exposed to air each time you open the container. If you could grow a small pond's worth of dense population fish like tilapia, you could potentially have a nearly indefinite source of food.
On the subject of rice, all wild grains cook pretty much the same way. I've been out in the woods and harvested wild grass seed, like those sticker kind (probably cali beach grass); it's like a nutty rice, pretty good. Just don't mix different grains, they tend to all have different cook times.
