Benadryl works great but only for a limited time. It also makes you sleepy, of course. There is some evidence that it can cause brain damage if taken in excessive amounts for long periods of time or by very old people. I take it at night so I can sleep.
When I was in peanut farming country, my hay fever almost disappeared. I eventually found out that I'm allergic to everything in the Graminid clade. I now make a point to live and work in areas where Graminid plants are not grown in large quantities and my life is a lot better.
