Hi /out/. I come to you tonight in search of information and knowledge. I don't know much about outdoor clothing and I want to change that. I've been doing some reading but I wanted to start a topic on it as well.
Basically, I don't know what I'm doing. If I were to go camping, hiking, hunting, etc. I wouldn't know what to wear, what to pack, and most importantly, I wouldn't know *why* I made my choices.
Most of my clothing I own is, admittedly, cheap garbage easily replaced at Wal Mart or something. I want to start making better, more informed choices with my clothing.
Much of what I've been reading so far has given me the impression that the fabrics you choose can be important (wool being a good insulator even when wet, cotton retaining water could get you killed). And that having a layering system lets you control your temperature more.
For what it's worth, I live in the northeastern US. We have hot, humid summers and cold, windy, wet winters. If we get hit by bad weather and I can't rely on my central heat/air conditioning, I'm screwed. I don't like that.
Help teach me about outdoor clothing (what to get and why, what not to get and why, etc.)?
