Here's a few pics of my blue barrel planter this morning. It's doing really well. About 8 of the holes on the side had plants die out completely. I think it was because of all the excess rain causing fungal stem rot.
The organic matter in the soil has been composting and everything has been compressing down as you can see in the middle image. I didn't have proper soil ready when I filled this so this happening is a hazard I had expected. The plants on the sides don't seem affected.
All in all, I can safely say that I highly endorse this method of growing vegetables. The ease of almost non-existent weeding is awesome. These things would be absolutely awesome for people with concrete patios where they could install wheels on these to move them around when needed.
