>>1967366>My concern is trails that are completely unmarked—while cc and frequently-trafficked day hikes are easy to navigate, I’m less sure that I’ll be able to comfortably tackle 10+ mile loops without losing visual reminders of the trail (in fact I’m certain there will be no trail for entire stretches).i don't know what it's like out in yellowstone, but over here in new england the popular trails get broken in so it's easy to follow, and the less proper trails you can still figure out the path through the trees. And even if it does snow it's usually easy enough to follow your footsteps back
might be different over there where there's more open country though, you might have to navigate by recognizing topographic features
