>>1618827All Subarus except the BRZ are AWD, and as I understand, use some sort of crazy computerized differential that lets them send 0-100% of power to any given wheel.
I'd say that they're excellent light to mid duty /out/ cars. I've got one and it's taken me on some decently rough trails. It's good if you have an actual job but also want to be able to drive some not-too-severe trails every now and then. The real issue is clearance. They can be lifted if you really want, but it's kinda dumb and good luck finding someone to do it. I wouldn't take mine on logging trails, but in college I regularly drove down a fairly nasty offroad section to the local shooting range.
Where they truly excel is on poor road conditions. I got mine because I figured I'd be daily commuting in Maine for the next decade, and it handles snow like an absolute fucking champ. Dirt, too, and doubtless shallow mud, I'm just not a redneck pleb that unironically enjoys "mudding".
Major cons:
>have fun replacing all the tires if you have a blowout unless tread is within 2/32">engines on older models will blow head gaskets every 80k-110k miles>flat 4 isn't very efficient gas-wise>repairs and parts tend to be more expensive, though not as bad as g*rman cars>mine is rusted to shit, but such is life in the salt beltPros:
>mfw jew yorkers are doing 30 on the highway because there are two inches of snow on the ground and I blast by them at 60 playing eurobeat at max volume with the windows down
